Well it seems that I have hit the paper again. This was my first 40K ride (25 miles) and it was tough on my big hybrid bike. Enjoyable for about the first 20 miles soon felt the difference at the end with the wind and longer stretches. We kept a pretty good pace around 28K (17.5mph) but I will definitely be doing it again.

Well, this is the proposed course for the upcoming Tri in November. Thus far I have only run one time and I hated almost every second of it. I’m showing signs of improvement from absolutely hating it all. As for the other two parts, I’ve been cycling a bit and enjoying that and trying to build up my stamina for the swim. Tonight is the first night of my swim class which is coached by an Olympic gold medalist…I hope my form doesn’t give him a heart attack.

Triathlon

I’ve almost settled into the new place, which means I have 85% of my stuff there and I am now spending the nights there. [Aside - I’ve got way to much stuff] My first morning there is a Friday - 8 minutes to get work in traffic. It was fantastic. As I’m brewing a fresh pot of coffee in the breakroom and thumbing through the few pages of the daily “paper” when the clients IT project manager asked if I saw there was a triathlon going on this weekend and inquired if I was going to participate. Ironically, my roommate and I were talking about it the night before and I told him “you have fun with that, I’m too out of shape.” I said something similar to this guy but he came back at me with the you’re a young guy and fit, you can do it. It’s just a social triathlon. I was sold and started telling people in the office I was going to do it.

1700 rolls around and I have talked myself out of it and my friend Tara I go on a pub crawl picking people up from bar to bar. Numerous drinks and somehow my mouth tasting like cigarettes, I wake up 1300 Saturday and feel like crap. I go back to my old place to clean and get my sports equip to make a dive on Sunday. I end up with hair of the dog to try and feel better and wasting away on the neighbours couch. I saunter in around 2300 and my roommate is still up, the social tri starts at 645. I start throwing all the excuses I used on myself at him.

I don’t have a helmet, “I put one on your bed.”
I left my bike in westbay, “We have one here.”
I don’t have swim googles, “I have another pair.”

I was running out of excuses but I was quite excited that all this was coming together that I jumped on it. Midnight roles around and he has me talked into this, we are pumping the tires, getting a run down of the gears, etc.

Sunday comes quick, I didn’t sleep well at all. A little tired in the morning but adrenilen is already flowing. I started the race and finished it which was my goal since I was out of shape and had absolutely no conditioning. 400 meter swim, 12 mile bike, and 5K run.

I was dying when it came to the run. I just hate it and was in no condition for running, the mindset was not there. My roommate was finishing 2nd as I was just starting my run. This will be a focal point (along with swimming and biking..heheh) for the Sprint Tri coming up in Nov. 800 Meter Swim, 20K Bike, and 5K run.

Anywho, went for a huge breakfast and after a nice day and small power nap ended up going surfing with the roommates. Now keep in mind, I have never surfed and spent most of my time paddling twice as much as Amber and going half as far. I started trying to get the balance of my board under me before I could even try to stand on it, but I was able to body surf a few waves and thought it was a good time. I was ooooohhhh so thankful that I caught a big wave in because I did not want to paddle anymore.

Sunday ended with some gnocchi with spinach salad and good soak in the hot tub to loosen up my defeated muscles.

Well it has been quite sometime since my last update. I have updated many of you online or through an occasional phone call or text and if I missed something please let me know.

I had to move out of my place up in Westbay right on the Iron Shore. My former roommate was trying to find a new job but ended up having to leave the island abruptly. He left me with a TV, microwave, and pots and pans all of which are pretty much of no use to me and actually no longer in my possession. These were the items he pawned off on me to cover his portion of the bills for his last six weeks in the apartment…

It was quite unfortunate to not find a replacement roommate since I did love the place with a great deck, view, and neighbours. My portion of the next months rent covered me until the 15th of June and scarmbling to find a place to live before I had to sleep on the Irish’s couch. Two coworkers had a place opening on the 23rd and I was keen to move in with them, after a few days of chatting back and forth their roommate was going to move out on the 15th. Score! This works out perfectly for me, but then I was told their landlord is not going to renew the lease at the end of August.

I take the deal since it is a nice place and need somewhere to stay for the time being. Everything was a go as of Tuesday the 12th. Then wednesday I get a note on my door that my apartment has been leased for July 1 and I have to vacate by the 30th. This is good and bad. The extra two weeks is my roommates deposit being applied to the rent and I will now get my portion of the deposit back. This is good news to me so I can now apply that deposit to my new place. I went from possibly sleeping on a couch, to having two places to live. Click on the picture to take you to a few more of the new place.

Oh, I almost forgot, another complication to my move was a client in Germany wanted me to come over there and do some work for them for a month starting as soon as the 18th. haha. We’ve tried to push them off until July 1 so i can finish up on one client that I am making tremendous strides in their goals. I’m having an absolute blast with this current client working as an IT Consultant and helping tremendously with their controls while at the same time working with a great group of people…it really makes the job enjoyable.

Well I made the two papers we have in Cayman, both in the same week. This was on the first pic for our win in the Division II championship. The tall Aussies on the ends are what really helped us win it all. The talk has been to set up a scrimmage game with a team from the Div I to see how we would do in the step up. It is a much more competitive division but should be a great challenge.

It was a hot day and I managed to beat the traffic home to Westbay. It seemed logical to take a nice soak in the sea and maybe a quick snorkel. The water wasn’t ideal for snorkeling as the tide was coming in creating murky conditions in the shallows. As we went out a bit deeper and did a little skin diving with a school of fish and a baby turtle the sun began to set so we started to make way to the ladder on the iron shore. My neighbour grabs my leg and I spin to see if he was pointing to something but he says he was only playing. Litterally a few seconds later he screams underwater and points to the right. I see nothing. He says shark (that was about5-6 feet in length) and starts paddling directly to the shore line. I tell him to stop splashing and side stroke. This is all adding in my head to be a pharse.

So I’m swimming with him to the shore, this just isn’t one of those situations where you call his bluff. We have to crawl out over the iron shore and this stuff is brutally sharp and full of urchin. Both of which cut up my hand and feet. I spent the next two hours picking out rock in my hand and urchin spines in my feet.

A local says that from time to time lemon sharks and some other sort will come in that area but are pretty much harmless. I still think that it was just a tarpon but it was still worth the trouble to pick out spines for a couple hours then be dinner for shark.

The Big Fish.

It was a nice a beautiful long weekend and Saturday morning was slated to be a deep sea fishing adventure. After a co-worker got a charter lined up for an all day expedition I bought two cases of Corona and an extra case back at the house for the rest of the weekend. We load up the boat with our beer and snacks and we are off. 8 hours later and a little rain I have a little buzz and 0 fish. We actually only caught one small baracuda.

Now, one of the chaps on the boat brought a couple banana’s as a snack. I have never heard this before that day, but the way of the captains they say that bananas are bad luck on boats. We threw them over board but as luck would have it, still no fish. It was a very expensive day of chatting with some friends on a boat, but still a good time.

Well it was a long weekend back in May. A hot sunday afternoon and an aussie lad threw a hell of a party, including a DJ.
